This is starting to get old, yo.

Among my responsibilities at work include initiating a monthly task for one of our clients like on the third weekend.  When the task was transitioned to me, I was told it takes up to eighteen hours to complete, and this estimated duration proved true for the first year I did it.  Fast-forward to late 2009 / 2010 and I’m still doing the thing, and mysteriously, the time it takes for the thing to finish running goes up by like thirty percent.  What’s having waited around twenty-four hours for the thing to complete, right?  I consider this as a no biggy and try not to mind that the task has started consuming both weekend days - hey, at least I’d get to enjoy the majority of the Sunday and relax and get ready for the new workweek!  However, this month, the task still hasn’t finished running after forty-one hours of duration.  Now, I’m starting to mind doing this.  Contrary to popular belief, I really despise the feeling of having worked seven-day workweeks - it makes me feel dirty and icky, and it puts a serious damper on the new workweek (getting me to start off the new workweek in a negative mood and on a negative note because I don’t feel like I got to rest).

My main question is this:Will they do what it takes and take the time to review my request for them to optimize the process so it doesn’t take nearly as long to complete and becomes more efficient, or will I have to start considering breaking out from this prison-like feeling and look elsewhere for gigs where the mantra is “What’s the best and most efficient way to accomplish this recurring task?”

And that concludes this edition of my complaining of something work-related that I think should be far better than it is.
